It is more widely understood and proven now that everything we experience is energy and that the only thing that differentiates between the wooden desk we sit at and say, our skin or our thoughts is a difference in the frequency of that energy. The desk vibrates at a slower frequency which makes it appear and feel to us as solid, than our thoughts, which are not even visible to our eyes but we know they are there and it’s all energy just in different forms.
This can be a big challenge to accept through our logical and rational brain which is looking to satisfy the tangible five senses, I mean, how can I be made up of the same stuff as an inanimate object! But truth is, we are and we are all vibrating away omitting and receiving waves of energy constantly.
So, when you take this awareness into your day to day, it means that the ENERGY of you, which is made up of so many things including your thoughts, emotions, beliefs, values, morals, ideals etc constantly have an impact on you and the world around you. This is quite a mind-blowing realisation to have if you sit and really ponder on that. In fact, it can be quite overwhelming when you get present with the fact that most of us in the world are fully aware of those aspects of ourselves maybe 10% of the time which leaves a whole chunky 90% of the time we are unaware, in other words, asleep to our energy and what impact it is having!
This, for me is an exciting revelation because what it ignites in me is the drive to become ever more conscious of who I really am, and in Mandy’s model on pg 129 of the Inspiring Courageous Leaders book, understand what Reconnecting, Responsibility and Revelation means, not just a business context but in the biggest context for us all, our whole life.
Over the past decades of personal development in business, we have heard a lot of the buzz words around what ‘really works’. We have attended courses where the ‘solution’ is to uncover our beliefs and then when that is done all will be OK. Then it was if we uncovered our morals and values, THEN we would have a fully functioning and aware business/life.
All of this is valuable stuff and allows some profound shift and yet we have all experienced how the awareness seems to be short lived and we then await eagerly for the next ‘fix’ while our copious course notes and flip-charts and organisational dream vision boards gather dust.
What I feel is necessary is to get down to the level of energy awareness. To look at the context that underlies all of these layers, our fundamental operating context if you like. This affects the way in which we turn up across all areas of our life. In simple terms, that fundamental context is going to be one of fear where it’s about fixing, changing and improving or manipulating a better outcome OR it’s the transformational and powerful loving context of 100% personal responsibility.
If you sit for a moment and ponder on just how powerful that is, to take responsibility for who you are BEING and the energy of you. Phew! Pretty big stuff I know but when you get how profoundly you influence it all, all of the time just through you being you… WOW!
What we are looking for when we talk about ‘Reconnecting’ with a more meaningful and purpose-filled life is we are looking for that deep and satisfying, intimate connection to ourselves not the roles and tasks we perform. When we talk about ‘Responsibility’ and wanting people to take greater personal, community and organisational responsibility is our own invitation to do that fully ourselves FIRST and not wait for others to do it first before we will. And the ‘Revelations’ we are seeking in form of truth from the world around us is actually all about just how honest we can be with OURSELVES. This is what would create true business mastery, through self-mastery which as Mandy clearly states, takes authenticity, courage and a willingness to be open, real and vulnerable.
If I’m to encapsulate what I have written above into a couple of points, it would be these:
1.You are energy omitting and receiving frequencies all the time and this directly affects everything around you.
2. As a leader, by being conscious of the energy of you, or who you are BEING whist doing whatever you are doing, and courageously choosing what’s really true for you, spectacular and powerful results occur. This is what true ‘taking 100% personal responsibility’ means.
3. That you influence everything, all the time, simply by BEING you and not just because of the many amazing things you have learned to DO.
4. Wise up to the unconscious stuff in your life as a priority and you will naturally connect to the courageous and powerful leader inside of you and then watch out world!!
5. Self-leadership and mastery precedes true leadership and business mastery.
The journey inward is one that requires courage and vulnerability and certainly in the context of a leadership space, is an essential one. When you make the shift from viewing the world from a separate, ‘you and me as individuals’ perspective and see you and your team or communities as an integrated whole, you realise the absolute necessity of understanding yourself.
You see that by knowing what runs inside you and determines how you show up (or don’t!) in your life, you have the key to seeing why you experience what you do on the outside. “As within, so without” which in simple terms means whatever you are thinking about both consciously and subconsciously will be brought about into your reality.
The courageousness and inevitable feelings of vulnerability are key components of this journey and in fact if they are absent, I invite you to to look at whether what end result you are going for is really all that important to you. An authentic leader learns not to avoid vulnerability and actually learns to actively work on ‘the edge’ in a comfortably uncomfortable place, knowing that’s where ‘the juice’ lies, where evolution occurs rather than stagnation.
A popular talk by Ms Brene Brown at TED.com shows the power found in true vulnerabilty around understanding yourself and is well worth viewing.
Through my experience in choosing this style of leadership, I have found that my authentic style, unique to me, naturally emerges and shines through. The requirement to measure myself against others and compare my way of leading loses relevance. The urgent need to prove that I’m anything other than I am disappears and I turn up making decisions and choices that have clarity and certainty.
After a recent session with a client I was moved to ponder more deeply on the question; Why do we fill up our time with busyness? It’s because it makes us feel (or not feel) something… more of something- more important, valuable, powerful, needed, secure. Or indeed avoiding by feeling less of something- angry, sad, disappointed, not good enough.
This is why so often we feel like a hamster on a wheel, doing things on autopilot without being connected to our truth. There’s so much burnout from over commitment and therefore feelings of overwhelm take over. Two of the most common experiences I hear people complain of when I’m supporting clients in their self-realisation process are anxiety and depression, both of which are states caused by being in our heads, over-and projecting into the future or the past. At the extreme end of this pendulum this habitual over-thinking is often diagnosed as manic depressiveness and Bi-polar disorder. (more…)
If you are not experiencing something you think you want in your life, a new job, new relationship, more money, simply put, its because you don’t have the space for it. Instead of trying hundreds of ways of making that thing come, put your focus on clearing space. This is something I have dedicated the past year to and continue to be present with which has meant spending much time alone and unplugged from the madding crowd. This of course means challenging the very strong parts of ego that are reliant on people’s approval, wanting to belong, the fear of missing out or being overlooked. But in the space, the space in between the thoughts and the emotions that arise lies peace and joy. A happiness that is not needy or dependent upon circumstances and stuff to be experienced. Stepping off, unplugging if you will, from the ‘way things are or should be” and feeling into spaciousness below the level of the noisy chatter monkey brain. Here is where I find who I really am and where I find what I truly want. This is where I find contentment with whatever turns up in the craziness of day to day life and a deep knowing that Iam OK and everything in my world is perfectly orchestrated and in perfect order.
This is what CoreTruth is about for those who feel that yearning inside to have this experience.
“peace. it does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. it means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart” unknown
Since last November I have been learning and experiencing the impact of what I eat and drink on my ability to be present and focused. A major part of what I have been experimenting with and more importantly enjoying immensely is my commitment to eating organic fruit and vegetables wherever possible.
To set some context for you, when I started this eating approach, I was someone who LOVED his food. I was of the belief that if I wanted something, I would have it with little awareness to what it was, the quality of it or where and how it was grown. I had good enough health for a 39 year old apart from a higher (conventional) cholesterol reading than the ‘normal’ range and an irritated bowel occasionally. I hadn’t eaten red meat or pork since I was 11 years old but did eat a lot of chicken and some fish and I had a more than enthusiastic taste for desert!! I wasn’t just a sweet tooth, but a savoury tooth also and due to long held habits, I would eat at uneven intervals through the day and often would overeat in a sitting due to missing meals. (more…)
